Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible to apply?

Anyone! We take all ages and all experience levels.

FCFF is for courageous artists who want to collaborate and share their voice with their community; a place where form is changed and challenged; where new words find their wings; where the unlikely story comes to life.

What is Fringe?

“Fringe” is theatre that is off the beaten path; that won’t find its home in an average theatre company season line-up. “Fringe” means exploring new boundaries, new venues, new ways of shaping and sharing a story.

It is the heart-beat of the living theatre community, where artists have a safe space to play and create with their community cheering them on to take risks and be bold. Audiences and artists alike are drawn to the concept - where work is original, minimalistic, experimental, short, and site-specific. Fringe pieces can be performed anywhere from a theatre, a car, a pub, or a stump in the park.

What is the application process?

The application process consists of a complete project proposal. FCFF provides a 2016 Application Check List to help with your planning.

What is the selection process?

Pieces will be selected on their appropriateness for Fringe based on our core values and the given allotment of performance slots.

Core Objectives:
1) To build a platform for original work, new scripts, and devised material to been seen and staged in Fort Collins
2) To use experimental theatre as a tool for the development of theatre as a craft
3) To present work that serves our local community and is relevant to the time and space we live in
4) To support the local artist in Fort Collins
5) To create a positive Fringe community with artists who value their art and are eager to share and receive the work

What am I responsible for, if selected?

If selected you will be responsible for:

-Production of the performance outlined in your application
-Prompt communication with the Fort Collins Fringe Staff
-Commitment to availability during expected Fort Collins Fringe times
-Promotion of your project. Fort Collins Fringe Festival will market the overall event, but individual project marketing will fall to the participants. It is in your best interest to get more audience to your event for the Audience Choice program.
-Participating in the culture of Fringe by being polite, courteous, and supportive of the other performers in the Festival.

Can I go see other pieces in the Festival?

YES! We very much encourage you to attend other performances in the Festival. For that reason we give each project leader a free ticket and offer performer passes. We hope that you will be inspired by all the other work that is happening around your piece and get to know the other like minded theater makers in our town!

What if I’m in more than one piece?

That is okay. However, If you are in more than one piece, or you know one of your performers is in more than one piece please state than clearly on your application as to help us avoid scheduling conflicts down the road. If this comes to your attention at any point in the process after applications have closed please contact [email protected] as quickly as possible. Thank you.
